2 to 6 October – PKUNSW Youth Camp
The Youth Camp is a great opportunity for children with PKU to get together between the ages of 8-17 and enjoy activities such as archery & rock climbing while getting to know about other kids from around Australia who have PKU. They also learn more about PKU, how others manage their PKU, and importantly, become aware of other food ideas and recipes to assist with the diet.
The aim of the National PKU Youth Camp is to have a fantastic time with other PKU children. Campers get to experience various outdoor activities that will test their confidence and encourage team building and problem solving skills. Just as importantly, campers will get the opportunity to make new friends and try new low protein foods. This amounts to a great deal of fun for all our campers in a safe and well supervised environment.
This year the PKU Youth Camp will be held at Berry Sport and Recreation Centre (2hrs south of Sydney). Bookings will be open early May so keep an eye on PKUNSW website and Facebook page to register.
Departure info: Aim to have a meeting point near Sydney airport (possibly car park at Heffron Park, Bunnerong Rd, Matraville), with bus looking to leave in mid-morning, about 10am, so kids to arrive by 9:30am (times and location to be confirmed). Anyone flying into Sydney would need to land before ~8:00 or 8:30am so that we can facilitate collection and transfer to the bus location
Arrival info: Bus will drop kids back in Sydney at same location. Likely the bus will be back by 14:30 (time to be confirmed). Flyers will be transferred to airport and likely should look at flights after 16:30.
Camper ages: 8-17 yrs
Cost: No set cost yet.
Leaders: combination of young adults with PKU and parents of children with PKU. Most leaders have done previous camps
Bookings: Will be via a website, this will be up and running once cost of the camp is confirmed.
